My favorite television channel Urdu1 has unbelievably managed to tear up all Pemra (Pakistan Media regulatory Authority) restrictions so far and what is more amazing is the fact that these days Pemra is forcing the cable operators in karachi and most of Pakistan to stop the Hindi channels.The other day I unofficially complained to the fee collector from the cable operator about the Sony entertainment channel being removed from the cable and he told me off the record that its not us the government forced and fined about half a million RS to stop hindi channels.
Urdu1 on the other hand is not only showing some of the popular hindi soaps like Pratigya and "diya aur bati hum" but the turkish and spanish soaps being dubbed in urdu are touching the topics far exceeding the limits of Pemra code of taboo topics and not to mention the dress and morality code which lead to the suspension of many english,american and french saops and sitcoms channels in the past.
Last night on my favorite channel Urdu1 my favorite turkish soap Ishq-e-Mamnoon (عشق ممنوع )or Aşk-ı Memnu (English: Forbidden Love)dubbed in urdu reached the half way mark of the 79 episodes and two seasons where the honeymoon ends and the cheating begins.kafi kafa kaffum.....yes it reminds me of the school days when girls were so desperate to learn the lingo commonly used for such taboo topics and gossips....i was probably dumb so i saved a lot of memory bytes by not learning this lingo and the Morse code.... these days the epidemic spread of mobile cam,audio/video recordings and easy playbacks have made it almost obsolete....what a shame....lol
So the question is who the hell is Urdu1 and how has it managed to swim in a segregated pool of Pemra so boldly and freely.
Also, for how long should we expect to see this beauty running wild before being tamed by the spurs of Pemra and tied to a post.
