David Hale (born 1961) is a United States diplomat. He was confirmed as Ambassador to the Lebanese Republic on August 1, 2013. Previously, Hale was the Special Envoy for Middle East Peace, 2011-2013, a Deputy Envoy (2009-11), and United States Ambassador to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan (2005-8), after multiple tours in Jordan and Lebanon and service in Tunisia, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, and at the U.S. Mission to the UN. In Washington, Hale was Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Israel, Egypt and the Levant and Director for Israel-Palestinian Affairs. He held several staff posts, including Executive Assistant to Secretary of State Albright. In 2013 Secretary Clinton gave him the Distinguished Service Award, and Hale has several Department Superior and Meritorious Honor awards. He speaks Arabic, is a graduate of Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service, and a native of New Jersey. He has been appointed as ambassador to Pakistan on March 10, 2015. He was confirmed on August 5, 2015.        |

Pakistan’s largest offshore island- Astola, also known as Seven Hills or Haft Talar, is located in Arabian Sea about 25km to the nearest coast and 39km southeast from the fishing port of Pasni. Legends say that Astola was formerly mentioned by Admiral Nearchos in 325 BC , who was sent by Alexander the Great(356-323 BC) to explore the coast of the Arabian Sea.

On behalf of President Obama and the people of the United States, I
send our best wishes to the people and the government of Pakistan as you
celebrate your Independence Day this August 14.
Today we remember the sacrifice of Muhammad Ali Jinnah and all of Pakistan’s founders, who dedicated their lives for their country. Since independence in 1947, the people of Pakistan have worked side by side to build a strong nation that honors its distinct heritage and history. Today, we commend the indomitable spirit, resilience, and sacrifices of all Pakistanis as they pursue goals of economic prosperity and strengthened democratic traditions that will benefit Pakistan and the region.
The United States joins you in celebrating the anniversary of Pakistan’s independence, and we renew our commitment to strengthen our partnership to promote greater peace and prosperity for both of our nations, now and for generations to come.
We too are inspired by the message of “hope, courage, and confidence” which the Quaid-e-Azam delivered to the Pakistani people in his Eid-ul-Azha Message in 1947, and we support your efforts to face the future with the same hope and determination.
