Pakistan and NATO relations
NATO is as we all know the North Atlantic Treaty Organization,an alliance of 28 independent countries of Europe and America.
Besides these member countries there are also the Partner countries of Europe,Asia,Africa and Australia that cooperate with the alliance individually and in the form of groups like EAPC and contact group.
So the question is that there is no Pakistan on any map of NATO and yet we read and see NATO Supplies being attacked and Burned in Pakistan. If it is true that NATO convoys are attacked and burned within Pakistan on a very regular basis as reported in the news and media than this proves that there exists some kind of cooperation between the Independent republic of Pakistan and the NATO and that the Maps could be updated anytime in the near future or the distant future. What is really important is that Pakistan is actively cooperating in a NATO mission.
It is ironic that NATO came in to Pakistan to help during the disastrous earthquake of oct 2005
this gave NATO the opportunity to develop and further strengthen the political relations with the leadership of Pakistan in order to drag it into its mission in the name of cooperation.
Pakistan is upto the neck now it has no way out. There has been many unfortunate incidents between the two .Pakistan has blocked the supply on a number of occasions to protest the insurgency by NATO troops within its borders. While NATO issues warnings to Pakistan on the security and safety of its personal and supplies and also helping and abetting terrorists. After the operation of Osama bin laden within the Pakistani territory the relations of Pakistani agencies has deteriorated with the US and all its NATO allies.Pakistan's relations with the so called Afghan Government is also not very good at the moment Karzai keeps blaming Pakistan for aiding terrorism in his country. The people of Pakistan and the opposition parties are calling for an end to Pakistan helping the NATO because its intentions and mission in Pakistan is not very clear. They wants to know why is Pakistan cooperating with NATO in its mission in Afghanistan when its own people in the northern border region are being targeted and killed by the DRONE attacks. It is very unclear why and how these drone attacks are justified and who calls the shots. Some say that drones or the unmanned aircrafts are operated from within Pakistan from some unknown air field jointly by US central intelligence CIA and Pakistan which sounds very absurd. These Drone attacks have caused great unrest within the country.People living in those areas for centuries are force to flee to other places some end up in the southern port city of Karachi the influx is causing great hardships to the already troubled city. Karachi saw an unparalleled development of roads and highways during the 2006-2009 through the elected city government which was later fired without any reason or rhyme.but the development it did in the short span is clearly helping the NATO convoys from the port of Karachi. This mindset is very alarming people of Pakistan and especially the military has reasons to believe that NATO has a "I don't give a damn, baby " attitude towards Pakistan they would blow up the infrastructure when their mission in Afghanistan and the region is finished and even if its not true NATO does not seemed to be alarmed at the environmental damage its burned convoys and jp-8 tankers are causing to the most beautiful region in the world.
